My Self-Love Journey with Boudoir Photography…
I always loved taking photos! It took me a few years to really “niche down” to Boudoir Photography.
In the beginning of the pandemic, when the lockdowns began, I no longer had other people I could be taking photos of. So my darling friend and fellow photographer, who lived all the way in Chicago at the time, suggested we do a 30 day self-portrait challenge so we could keep our creative juices flowing.
Up until this point, I had only really taken cel phone selfies, but never any planned artistic “projects”. It was almost like I didn’t feel worthy of using my own professional equipment on myself or something.
So, we chose 30 different words to act as a “theme” for each image. Words like “shadow”, “reflection”, “solitude”, etc.
And these are some of the images that came out of that…
At first I had ALL the head trash thoughts, like “ugh, what are people gonna think… me posting pictures of myself all over my social media… they are gonna think I’m some kind of narcissist… who do I think I am?” - blah blah blah
But as the project went along, I fell head over heels in love with it. I started to feel worthy of being in front of my own camera. I got to really play with my creativity in ways that I never had before. I got to express my emotions (and feel safe in doing so) when the world outside was basically in chaos.
Up until that point, I had done a few Boudoir Sessions and I was SO drawn to it because of the feedback I got from these women. But it wasn’t until I experienced those feelings myself that I really got “IT”.
It is SO important to document our lives, because I don’t know about you, but for me, memories fade SO EASILY. How many times do you go and look at old photos, and it completely takes you back into those moments??
NOW, I am in LOVE with self-portraits! They are a regular part of my routine and I feel like I have this amazing privilege of Celebrating ME and my amazing body that carries me through this crazy life!
Throughout the journey, I have also found my absolute adoration for Black and White Photography. Of course I still love to shoot and edit color as well but B&W is absolutely my JAM! I find it takes out any distractions and deepens the focus on the subject and the beautiful emotion:)
So what about YOU???
Are you ready to Celebrate yourSELF? Are you ready to SEE yourself??
***and just to be CLEAR, Boudoir photography is a HUGE spectrum: Glamour Photography - Intimate Photography - Maternity Boudoir - Bridal Boudoir - Editorial Boudoir (my fave!) - Fine Art Photography - Outdoor Boudoir - Artistic Nudes
I mean the list goes on and on, but what it really comes down to is Honoring the beautiful body you are in, and ALL the amazing things it does for you! It’s a body positive, body confidence, body emPOWERment, self-loving, experience of Celebration:)
Women are freakin’ Awesome, Amazing, Magical beings! And the time has come for us to remember that about ourselves!
If you feel the call, I would love to Create some Magic with you!
xoxo,
Lisa
